Our trans-disciplinary platforms conduct long-term, wide-ranging, regenerative research using diverse methods, including primary, action, community-partnered and kaupapa Māori approaches. Projects span urban agriculture pilots, forest regeneration, system change tools, films, performance events and academic texts.
The AUT Living Laboratories are an experimental restoration project investigating effective re-forestation methodologies. Aimed at addressing scientific, social and economic knowledge gaps in native re-vegetation, the project is a multi-decadal investigation following growth trends and monitoring biodiversity indicators.
ORA is a regenerative design research lab. We focus on ecologising and connecting our cities and communities to enhance resilience and mauri ora (social and ecological wellbeing) in an era of complex socio-ecological crisis. We develop transition tools and guides to communicate and enact action for urban transitions in regenerative ecosystems, zero-carbon energy, regenerative circular economies, connected urban communities and regenerative buildings. We explore place-based change on the ground with communities
NUWAO develops nature-based urban design solutions, rooted in Indigenous knowledges that support climate change adaptation and individual and community wellbeing in different contexts across Aotearoa and Oceania.
