The AUT Regenerative Environments Research Network (RegEN for short) is a collaborative network of researchers working towards actionable solutions that restore, renew, and revitalise natural ecosystems and human wellbeing.
We work alongside iwi, the community, government and business to solve real-world problems. We have diverse expertise and are keen to help with your regeneration project! Learn how we can help.
Te Whare Tūroa is the Māori name for our network that was developed by Professor Georgina Stewart. But these two names are by no means simply equivalent. The concept of ‘te whare’ refers to our identity as a group with a shared purpose and also references the ‘built environment’ aspect of our work. 'Tūroa' is a traditional Māori word used in referring to the visible, natural world. 'Te Whare Tūroa' as a name for the network can be used when speaking or writing in te reo Māori. When used in English, this name deserves to be used responsibly, with ethical thought and care.
Our dual bilingual name reflects our bicultural aspirations for the future of this network and, more importantly, of this country, Aotearoa New Zealand, and the world. The complexity of transdisciplinarity in research is reflected in the complexity of theory and practice associated with authentic multiculturalism.
The Kaiwhakatere are subject matter experts and are responsible for navigating the direction of the network.
You can join the Te Whare Tūroa AUT Regenerative Environments Research Network as either a partner or an affiliate, or you can simply request to be kept in the loop by joining our mailing list and receiving our monthly newsletter.
